The Global Baby Products Market: Fewer Births, Higher Sales – Where the Opportunities Lie for Manufacturers
Published on 10/1/2026
Around 132 million children were born worldwide in 2025. That sounds like a huge, reliable sales market – and it is. A closer look at individual countries, however, shows how differently this market is developing: in China, only 7.92 million babies were born in 2025. That is 17 percent fewer than the year before and the lowest figure since official records began in 1949.
And yet the global market for baby products keeps growing. How does that fit together? The explanation is simple: parents today spend considerably more per child than they used to – on safer, more sustainable and more technologically advanced products. This article gives an overview of how big the market is, which trends are shaping it, which companies set the tone, where the industry meets at trade fairs, which product groups and countries are in particularly high demand – and where smaller manufacturers can find rewarding niches.
How big is the global baby products market?
Anyone looking for a single, definitive figure will be disappointed. Estimates from market research firms vary widely because each firm defines the market differently: some count only care and hygiene products, while others also include baby food, clothing, strollers and nursery furniture.
The broadest definition is used by the market research firm Ken Research. It puts the global baby products market – from diapers and baby food to clothing, strollers and furniture – at around USD 288 billion in 2025. By 2032, it is expected to grow to roughly USD 426 billion. That corresponds to a compound annual growth rate (CAGR, i.e. the average annual growth rate over a given period) of 5.75 percent. Narrower studies that focus solely on baby care products arrive at much smaller figures: Global Market Insights, for example, estimates this segment at USD 107.6 billion in 2024 and expects it to grow by 4.3 percent per year through 2034.
However much the absolute figures differ, the studies agree on the direction: the market is growing steadily – and faster in value than in volume. This is a clear sign that higher-quality products are gaining ground. Regionally, Asia-Pacific accounts for around 38 percent of the market, making it both the largest sales region and the industry’s most important manufacturing hub.
Key trends: what parents are buying today – and why
Fewer children, higher spending per child
In many industrialised countries, birth rates are falling or stagnating at a low level. The market is still growing there because families spend more on each child and are less willing to compromise on quality, safety and environmental impact. Market observers describe this development in Belgium, for example: although relatively few children are born there, parents increasingly choose high-quality products rather than looking only at the price.
Sustainability – but with proof
Organic cotton, bamboo, recycled plastics and transparent information on materials have become a basic requirement in many markets. A simple “eco-friendly” on the packaging hardly convinces anyone anymore – parents want to see evidence, for instance in the form of recognised certifications. Biodegradable and plant-based diapers are moving from niche to mainstream.
Smart baby tech is becoming standard
Baby monitors with video and AI functions, sleep trackers and breathing sensors are no longer gimmicks. In the mid-range and premium segments, parents increasingly take such features for granted. The baby monitor market is estimated at USD 1.8 billion for 2026 and is expected to reach USD 2.8 billion by 2034. According to Fact.MR, the infant breathing monitor segment is developing even more dynamically: from USD 1.2 billion in 2026 to USD 3.4 billion in 2036. For exporters, however, this also means that data protection, cybersecurity and the right approvals for the target market are becoming increasingly important.
Products that grow with the child
There is strong demand for products that can be used for a long time and fit into small city apartments: cots that later convert into toddler beds, high chairs that adapt as the child grows, and strollers that can be reconfigured for different age groups. Durability is both a quality argument and a sustainability argument.
E-commerce and direct sales
According to Verified Market Reports, more than 40 percent of global baby product sales already take place online. More and more brands sell directly to consumers (direct-to-consumer, DTC) and rely on subscription models, for example for diapers. Physical retail nevertheless remains important – especially for products parents want to try out before buying, such as strollers or car seats.
Second-hand and artificial intelligence
The second-hand market is growing too: platforms such as Vinted make it easy to resell baby clothes and equipment. At the same time, artificial intelligence is making its way into the industry – not only in products, but also in range planning and customer communication. Kind + Jugend in Cologne even chose it as its key theme for 2026: “Growing with AI”.
The major players: who shapes the market
The baby products market essentially consists of two worlds. On one side are consumables – referred to in the industry as FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods, i.e. everyday products that are bought frequently and used up quickly). These include diapers, wipes, baby food and care products. On the other side are durable goods such as strollers, car seats, furniture and textiles.
In consumables, international corporations dominate: Nestlé, Procter & Gamble (Pampers), Kimberly-Clark (Huggies), Danone and Abbott are among the most important companies, joined in Asia by Unicharm. The announced acquisition of Kenvue – maker of the Johnson’s brand – by Kimberly-Clark is stirring things up. The transaction values Kenvue at around USD 48.7 billion; completion was announced for the second half of 2026.
In durable goods, Goodbaby International Holdings, with its brands Cybex, Evenflo and gb, is one of the heavyweights. The group generated revenue of around HKD 8.66 billion in 2025 (roughly USD 1.1 billion). Its premium brand Cybex increased revenue by 13 percent and achieved record sales and profits. Alongside it, numerous strong brands that regularly exhibit at Kind + Jugend shape the market, including Artsana (Chicco), BabyBjörn, Britax Römer, Joie/Nuna, Peg Perego, Thule, UPPAbaby, hauck, Kids2, Lässig and Little Dutch.
Beyond these big names, the market is highly fragmented: Ken Research counts around 153,000 suppliers worldwide. This is exactly where the opportunity lies for small and mid-sized manufacturers – specialised products with a clear advantage can very well find their way onto store shelves and into online shops.
The industry’s most important trade fairs
Kind + Jugend, Cologne (Germany): Founded in 1960, the fair is regarded as the leading international trade fair for baby and toddler products. For the 2026 edition from 15 to 17 September, the organiser had announced around 800 exhibitors from 50 countries. The offering is organised into seven theme worlds – from strollers and mobility to furniture, home textiles, fashion and toys through to safety and care. In 2024, around 15,000 trade visitors from 115 countries attended. The fair takes place every year in September.
CBME China, Shanghai: Describing itself as the world’s largest trade fair for maternity, baby and children’s products, it took place from 15 to 17 July 2026 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center – with more than 2,800 exhibitors, over 4,200 brands and 270,000 square metres of exhibition space. It is particularly interesting for companies looking for manufacturing partners or private-label suppliers, i.e. manufacturers that produce goods for retailers’ own brands.
CKE China Baby Products Exhibition, Shanghai: China’s second major baby fair takes place from 21 to 23 October 2026 at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. According to trade fair portals, more than 2,600 companies exhibit there.
HKTDC Hong Kong Baby Products Fair: Held every January alongside the Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair, it is an important meeting point for Asian suppliers and international buyers.
ABC Kids Expo, Las Vegas (USA): North America’s largest trade show for baby products took place from 13 to 15 May 2026, with more than 320 exhibiting brands. Anyone targeting the US market can hardly afford to miss it.
Which product groups are in particularly high demand
Baby food is the largest segment within baby care products: according to Ken Research, it accounts for around 38.6 percent of sales. Infant formula, purées and snacks are bought again and again – a stable source of revenue.
Diapers and wipes are the second big evergreen. The diaper market alone was estimated at USD 67.7 billion in 2024 and is expected to reach around USD 107.8 billion by 2033.
Baby care and cosmetics benefit from the demand for natural, dermatologically tested ingredients without unnecessary additives.
Strollers, car seats and mobility are the core segment of durable goods. Safety, design and brand trust are what count here – Cybex’s record results show that premium products remain in demand even in a difficult consumer environment.
Other important product groups include nursery furniture and textiles, sleep products, safety and monitoring products, baby fashion and toys for the first years of life.
Where demand is particularly high
China remains a heavyweight despite falling birth numbers: many families have strong purchasing power, and the government is trying to counter the decline with support programmes – since 2025, for example, with a nationwide childcare subsidy of CNY 3,600 per child. Demand focuses above all on high-quality products that are perceived as safe.
India is the growth market par excellence. With around 26 million births a year, the country has the highest number of newborns in the world. Ken Research estimates the Indian market for maternity and baby products at USD 5.7 billion in 2025 and expects it to double to USD 11.4 billion by 2032. The specialist retailer FirstCry already operated 1,156 stores in March 2025 – an indication of how quickly organised retail is developing there.
The United States is one of the most important individual markets worldwide thanks to high purchasing power and a large number of births. Innovative products and direct sales via online channels have traditionally had good prospects here.
Europe – especially Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the Nordic countries – combines low birth rates with high spending per child. These markets are demanding: strict safety standards, evidence on ingredients and materials, and a professionally organised specialist retail sector are the norm. Those who clear these hurdles will find customers who are willing to pay.
Africa and the Middle East offer enormous long-term potential. Nigeria, for example, has a birth rate of 36.9 per 1,000 inhabitants. The diaper market in the Middle East and Africa is estimated at USD 4.82 billion (2024) and is expected to grow to USD 10.65 billion by 2034. According to Euromonitor, many families in Nigeria still use traditional, unpackaged products – so market penetration is low and the room for growth correspondingly large. While affordable mass-market products dominate, the growing middle and upper classes are increasingly asking for premium products with natural ingredients.
Niche markets with potential
For small and mid-sized manufacturers in particular, it pays to look at specialised segments where the big corporations are less present:
• Organic baby food: IMARC estimates the global market at USD 7.0 billion in 2025 and expects it to rise to USD 17.6 billion by 2034. Almost half of sales come from the Asia-Pacific region.
• Sleep and breathing monitoring: wearables and sensors for infants are among the fastest-growing product categories – with high technical and regulatory requirements.
• Sustainable and cloth diapers: alongside biodegradable disposables, reusable cloth diapers are making a comeback – in Europe for environmental reasons, and in countries such as Nigeria also because of reduced purchasing power.
• Second-hand, rental and circular models: high-quality, durable products can be resold or rented out – an argument premium manufacturers can actively use.
• Space-saving and grow-with-me products: compact, foldable and convertible solutions for families living in city apartments.
• Maternity care and maternity wear: Kind + Jugend dedicates its own theme world to this area (“Kids and Mom Care”) – a sign that parents themselves are becoming a more important target group.
• Private label: many retail chains are expanding their own brands in the baby range and are looking for reliable manufacturing partners – an opportunity for manufacturers that do not wish to sell under their own brand.
Conclusion: a growth market – but every country works differently
The global baby products market is growing even though fewer children are being born in many countries. The driver is not volume but value: parents are investing in safety, quality, sustainability and smart features. For manufacturers, however, this also means that there is no single global baby market. Every country has its own regulations, distribution structures, price levels and preferences – and without the right importer or distributor on the ground, even the best product stays in the warehouse.
If you want to target a specific country market, Easy Prospect (www.easyprospect.com.br) offers market entry studies for baby and toddler products, for example for Belgium and France. They combine a market overview, market access requirements and a directory of suitable importers, distributors and directly importing retailers – making it easier to gain access to particularly attractive baby product markets.
