A small but exceptionally prosperous and international market. Covers hotels, restaurants and catering, how they are supplied, access rules and a directory of importers and distributors.
Luxembourg is a small but exceptionally prosperous and international market. The Horesca federation represents around 2,900 establishments — from the smallest café to the largest hotel — employing more than 18,000 people; broader sector counts reach some 3,000 establishments and more than 20,000 employees. The country has more than 800 accommodation establishments and more than 15,000 hotel rooms, concentrated in and around Luxembourg City.
Within the Benelux out-of-home foodservice market, Luxembourg accounts for the smallest national share but the most dynamic one: growth is forecast at around 6% a year to 2031, faster than in Belgium or the Netherlands, driven by high disposable income, a compact urban geography that favours efficient delivery and a steady stream of tourists, business travellers and cross-border commuters. Cost pressure is real: automatic wage indexation regularly raises the cost of labour, compresses operators' margins and sharpens demand for products that save time in the kitchen or differentiate themselves clearly. This study includes a directory of Luxembourg importers and distributors in the sector.
