Baby and Toddler Products in Ireland Market volume, key players, opportunities, market access requirements and directory of importers and distribution partners for international suppliers of branded and private-label products Product scope: nursery equipment, prams and car seats, furniture and sleep, textiles and babywear, feeding and care, safety products, toys – as presented at Kind+Jugend
Ireland is a small but affluent, English-speaking market of about 5.4 million people with roughly 54,000 births per year (54,125 registered in 2025). Births have fallen by almost 18% in a decade and the average age of first-time mothers has risen to 31.8 years – which means fewer, older and financially stronger parents who spend more per child and favour safety, quality and premium design.
We estimate the Irish retail market for baby and toddler products (0–6 years, Kind+Jugend scope plus baby consumables and clothing) at roughly €0.60–0.75 billion at retail prices. Toys and nursery hardgoods account for about 40% of this, clothing for around a quarter, and nappies, baby food and baby care for the rest.
The market structure is unusual: distribution was historically run from the UK, and many brands are still sold into Ireland by “UK & Ireland” distributors. Since Brexit (and the loss of Mothercare Ireland in 2020) there is a clear need for EU-based supply chains and Irish-based distribution partners, and space for new brands in nursery specialist retail, online and discount non-food.
Key opportunities for foreign suppliers:
• Nursery hardgoods with a safety story – i-Size car seats (R129), lightweight travel systems, next-to-me cribs, smart monitors – sold via specialists such as Tony Kealys, All4Baby, Kaliedy and distributors like Baby Bedibies and Clever Clogs.
• Private label for Penneys, Dunnes Stores, Aldi, Lidl, Smyths and Kaliedy (babywear, textiles, feeding accessories, baby toys, value car seats and furniture).
• Toys: Smyths (one listing = up to seven countries), Toymaster independents and discount variety chains.
• Sustainable and premium products (organic textiles, wooden toys, Scandinavian design) for department stores and boutiques. Access is straightforward for EU suppliers (single market, CE marking, English labelling). Suppliers from the UK and other non-EU countries need customs formalities, an EU-based economic operator for product-safety purposes (GPSR) and must not rely on UKCA marking. The zero VAT rate on children’s clothing and footwear and the reduced 13.5% rate on child car seats are relevant for price positioning.
