An attractive and demanding out-of-home market reached through a handful of specialised distributors. Covers channels, Swiss access rules outside the EU and a directory of importers.
The Swiss out-of-home market is today estimated at around CHF 30 billion a year; GastroSuisse already reported about CHF 23.6 billion in 2017, and the figure has grown since. Independent analyses put the commercial foodservice market for 2024 at roughly USD 16 to 17 billion, with expected annual growth of around 5 to 8 percent. Purchasing power and price levels make Switzerland attractive to foreign suppliers — and demanding at the same time.
The route to the customer runs through a handful of strong wholesalers. Transgourmet/Prodega (Coop) is the clear market leader; Saviva (Migros), Aligro/CCA Angehrn, TopCC (Spar) and the Pistor cooperative make up the rest of the leading group. Coop and Migros together control around a quarter of foodservice supply. For a new supplier, market entry therefore hinges on being listed with one of these houses. The study sets out market volume and channel structure, explains the access requirements for suppliers from the EU and from third countries, and includes a directory of Swiss importers and foodservice wholesalers.
