One of the world's largest foodservice markets, highly fragmented, where the entry point is the distributor. Covers channels, access requirements and a directory of Italian importers.
Italian foodservice is worth about €84 billion in 2025 and is the sixth-largest market in the world; counting the entire out-of-home chain across all channels, the estimate rises to about €101 billion. The growth recorded has been almost entirely price-driven rather than volume-driven. The operator landscape remains highly fragmented: 67% of companies have turnover below €2.5 million, and several hundred have left the market in recent years.
For a foreign supplier, the entry point is not the kitchen but the distributor. MARR, Gruppo DAC, Cateringross, METRO and Altasfera lead foodservice distribution and are all actively expanding their ranges, including private-label lines — often the fastest route for a new supplier. This study reconstructs the market's size and structure, the main players, the access requirements for EU, non-EU European and non-European suppliers, and the categories with the best prospects, and includes a directory of Italian HoReCa importers and distributors.
