A Benelux foodservice market shaped by high labour costs, which favour ready-to-use products. Covers channels, distributors, access requirements and a directory of Belgian importers.
Out-of-home food spending in Belgium is put at around EUR 15 billion in 2023, with a projection of about EUR 17 billion by 2028; the broader hotel and restaurant turnover would rise from about EUR 20 billion to 24 billion over the same period. Placed in the Benelux context, the whole represents USD 40 billion to 43 billion in 2025-2026, with annual growth of close to 5.7% expected to 2031.
The structural constraint of the Belgian market is labour cost: about EUR 48 an hour according to Eurostat, which squeezes operators' margins and makes buyers particularly receptive to products that cut kitchen preparation time or ingredient cost. On the distribution side, Sligro Food Group Belgium — with Sligro-ISPC and JAVA Foodservice — holds a leading position following its acquisitions. This study presents the market's volume and structure, the main operators, the access conditions according to the supplier's origin and the categories with the strongest potential, and includes a directory of Belgian importers and distributors in out-of-home catering.
