Baby and Toddler Products in Spain Market volume, key players, opportunities, market access requirements and a directory of importers and distribution partners for international suppliers Product scope: nursery and mobility (strollers, car seats), furniture, sleep and textiles, feeding and care, safety products, first-age toys and baby/toddler fashion – the product universe presented at trade fairs such as Kind+Jugend
Spain is Europe's fourth-largest consumer market for baby and toddler products and a gateway to the Iberian Peninsula. Structurally, the market is shaped by one of the lowest fertility rates in the EU (1.10 children per woman) but a stable base of around 320,000 births per year – in 2025 births rose by 1.0 % to 321,164, the first increase in a decade. Fewer children, older and better-educated parents and a high share of first-born children translate into higher spending per child, a clear trend towards premium, safety-certified and design-oriented products, and a strong gifting culture (grandparents, baby showers, christenings).
We estimate the retail value of the product universe presented at trade fairs such as Kind+Jugend (nursery hardgoods, furniture, sleep and textiles, feeding and care, safety, first-age toys and baby/toddler fashion) at roughly €1.7–2.2 billion per year, plus about €0.4 billion for nappies and wipes. The Spanish manufacturing side (fashion, footwear and nursery goods) invoiced €1.134 billion in 2024, more than half of it exported, while the total toy sector reached about €1.5 billion; both segments returned to modest growth in 2025.
Distribution is concentrated in a handful of gatekeepers: specialist Iberian importer-distributors (who typically hold exclusive rights for Spain and Portugal), El Corte Inglés, the Prénatal Retail Group (Toys "R" Us and Prénatal), Amazon, the hypermarket chains, pharmacies for feeding and care, and toy buying groups. Independent specialist stores still matter for strollers and car seats but are shrinking. For most foreign suppliers the fastest and lowest-risk route is an exclusive Iberian distributor, complemented by Amazon for visibility; private-label manufacturers should target discounters, hypermarkets and fashion chains directly.
Best prospects exist for lightweight/compact travel strollers, i-Size car seats (especially extended rear-facing), bedside co-sleeping cribs and convertible furniture for small urban flats, premium feeding and breastfeeding products, connected monitoring (subject to the new EU radio-equipment cybersecurity rules), sun-protection and hot-climate products, organic textiles and sleeping bags, Montessori/wooden and educational toys, and value private-label consumables and accessories.
Market access is governed by harmonised EU law. EU suppliers enjoy free movement but must still register for Spanish extended producer responsibility (packaging, electrical equipment, batteries) and label in Spanish. Suppliers from non-EU Europe (UK, Switzerland, Norway, Turkey) can usually import duty-free under preferential agreements but face customs formalities. Suppliers from outside Europe pay customs duties of 0–12 % depending on the product, 21 % import VAT and need an EU-based economic operator; import consignments of toys and childcare articles may be subject to SOIVRE product-safety inspection.
Section 8 lists 52 relevant Spanish importers, distributors and directly importing retailers, separated into baby and toddler specialists and non-food companies that handle baby products or toys as one category among others.
