Continental Europe's largest toy market, demanding on product safety and concentrated in retail buying. Covers channels, safety requirements and a directory of German importers and distributors.
Germany is the largest single toy market in continental Europe. Sales at end-consumer prices across all distribution channels came to around EUR 4.4 billion in 2024, and the German toy trade association (BVS), together with Circana, expected growth of about three percent for 2025. The market is attractive precisely because it is demanding: product safety rules are strict and are being tightened further, and retail buying is concentrated in comparatively few hands.
Between a good product and shelf space in Germany there is, as a rule, an importer or distributor, not the retailer itself. This study is aimed at manufacturers and brand owners outside Germany that already sell successfully in their home market and now want to enter under their own brand or as a private-label supplier. It covers traditional toys, games and puzzles, trading cards, video games as an adjacent category, and playground, nursery and school equipment. At its core is a directory of German importers, distributors, buying associations and direct-importing retailers, which deliberately distinguishes toy specialists from more broadly based non-food importers — the two negotiate differently and expect different things from a new supplier.
