Market size · Key players · Opportunities · Access requirements Directory of relevant HoReCa / foodservice importers and distribution partners A reference guide for export-oriented suppliers of branded and private-label product
Executive Summary The Kingdom of Bahrain is a compact but affluent Gulf market that imports the overwhelming majority of the food it consumes. For an export-oriented supplier of branded or private-label products, this import dependency is the central opportunity: almost everything on a hotel buffet, a restaurant menu or a café counter has reached the island through a local importer or distributor. Reaching Bahraini foodservice buyers therefore means, in practice, reaching the right importer or foodservice distributor. Bahrain's foodservice (HoReCa) market is estimated at roughly USD 1.05 billion in 2025 and is widely forecast to grow at a double-digit compound annual rate through the end of the decade, driven by tourism, a young and growing expatriate population, rising eating-out habits and rapid expansion of quick-service and delivery formats. Quick-service restaurants dominate by value, while cloud kitchens and delivery are the fastest-growing segments. The distribution landscape is led by a handful of long-established, full-range groups — Trafco, BMMI, Jawad Business Group, Ashraf's, Nass Foods and others — complemented by a dedicated broadline foodservice distributor (Bidfood Bahrain) and a set of category specialists in dry goods, dairy, frozen/chilled and meat. Cash- and-carry-style reach for smaller operators is provided mainly through hypermarket and supermarket groups such as LuLu and Al Jazira. Market access is governed by the GCC-wide standards framework (GSO), mandatory halal certification for meat and animal-derived products, bilingual Arabic/English labelling, and health/food-safety documentation (ISO 22000 / HACCP being strongly preferred by serious buyers). EU suppliers and other non-GCC suppliers face broadly the same product and labelling requirements; the principal differences lie in tariff treatment, logistics and halal-body recognition, which are discussed in Section 6. This study sets out the market size and structure, the leading players, the concrete opportunities for new foreign suppliers, and the access requirements — differentiated for EU, other non-EU and overseas suppliers — and closes with a working directory of the relevant HoReCa/foodservice importers, each with website and, where available, a general e-mail address and a central telephone number for first contact.
