The Toy Market in the United Kingdom A Practical Guide for Foreign Suppliers of Branded and Own-Label Toys Market size · Leading players · Opportunities · Access requirements Directory of UK toy importers, distributors and direct-importing retailers
The United Kingdom is one of Europe's largest toy markets. The British Toy & Hobby Association and most of the trade value it at approximately £3.9 billion at retail; on Circana's European comparison the UK sits just over €5 billion, ahead of both France and Germany. Published figures differ widely because providers measure on different bases — retail against trade value, and varying treatment of trading cards, video games and licensed non-toy merchandise — which is why this study names the source behind every figure it quotes. Two structural features shape the opening for a newcomer. Adult buyers are now the single largest segment: toys bought by and for people aged 12 and over grew about 5% in the twelve months to June 2025 and are worth roughly £1.2 billion, some 31% of total toy spend, or about £1 in every £3, with 43% of adults aged 18 and over buying toys for themselves. Preschool remains the volume engine at roughly 17% of spend and 22% of units, at an average purchase price near £8.54. This study is written for manufacturers and brand owners based outside the UK, whether branded or private-label, and its core is a directory of UK importers, distributors and direct-importing retailers that separates dedicated toy specialists from general non-food importers carrying toys as one category among many.
