The HoReCa & Foodservice Market in Slovakia A guide for foreign suppliers of branded and private-label products Market size · Key players · Opportunities · Access requirements · Importer directory
Slovakia is a compact market of roughly 5.4 million people that functions, in practice, as part of an integrated Czech–Slovak market — which matters commercially, because several distributors buy and operate across both countries. Consumer foodservice generated on the order of €2.8 billion in revenue in 2023 and is forecast to grow towards roughly €3.5 billion by 2028, an annual rate of about 3 to 3.5%. Restaurants and takeaways alone account for around €1.6 billion across close to 11,800 businesses, with demand concentrated in Bratislava and Košice and a tourism component in the High Tatras. The clear market leader in delivered foodservice is Bidfood Slovakia, part of the international Bidcorp group, which operates on an integrated Czech–Slovak basis and supplies well over 10,000 gastronomy outlets. In cash-and-carry, METRO Cash & Carry SR runs six large wholesale centres and is the reference operator. For a foreign supplier the integration with Czechia cuts both ways: a single conversation can open two markets, and a rejection can close both. This study covers market size and structure, the leading players, access requirements by supplier origin, and a directory of Slovak importers and foodservice distributors.
