The HoReCa & Foodservice Market in Malta A practical guide for foreign suppliers of branded and private-label food & beverage products Market size · key players · opportunities for new foreign suppliers · market-access requirements (EU / non-EU Europe / non-European countries) · directory of HoReCa & foodservice importers and distribution partners · product categories with strong potential
Malta's food and drink service industry is estimated at roughly €1.2 billion in 2026 across some 2,600 businesses, having grown at double-digit annual rates since 2020, with a further €159 million or so in dedicated catering and foodservice contracting across about 440 businesses. The engine is tourism: around 3.56 million visitors arrived in 2024, up 19.5%, and total tourist expenditure of approximately €3.3 billion in 2024 is rising towards €3.9 billion in 2025. For a foreign supplier the consequence is a market whose demand profile is set by visitors rather than residents — international menus, seasonal peaks and a hotel and restaurant base that expects imported range as a matter of course, since domestic production covers very little of it. Malta is an EU member, which places EU suppliers inside free circulation and gives suppliers from outside the Union a single defined set of requirements. This study covers market size and structure, the importers and distributors that serve the channel, the access requirements by supplier origin, and a directory of Maltese importers and foodservice distribution partners.
