Finland The HoReCa / Foodservice Market A Practical Guide for Foreign Suppliers of Branded and Private-Label Products Market volume · key players · opportunities · access requirements for EU, non-EU European and non-European suppliers · a directory of Finnish foodservice importers and distribution partners
Finland is a market of about 5.6 million people with an established eating-out culture. Foodservice at end-consumer level generates in the region of €5.6 billion in sales across roughly 10,000 businesses, while the professional wholesale layer that supplies it is worth roughly €2.3 billion (2023) and is forecast to reach about €2.8 billion by 2028, a compound rate of around 4.1% a year. Some 16,150 professional kitchens serve close to 749 million meals annually. Two sub-segments deserve a foreign supplier's attention because they are both sizeable and growing: wholesale to ethnic restaurants — sushi, Chinese, Indian, Nepalese, Thai and Vietnamese — was worth around €383 million in 2023, and wholesale to pizzerias, burger and kebab restaurants around €196 million. Both are served largely by specialist importers rather than by the broadline majors, which lowers the entry threshold for a supplier with a distinctive product of origin. This study covers market size and structure, the leading players, the access requirements by supplier origin, and a directory of Finnish importers and foodservice distributors.
