The Canadian HoReCa & Foodservice Market A practical guide and importer directory for foreign suppliers of branded and private-label / no-name food products Market volume · Key players · Market-access requirements (EU / non-EU / overseas) · Product opportunities · Importer & distribution-partner directory
Commercial foodservice sales in Canada are estimated in the region of CAD 115–135 billion for 2025 across the major analyst houses — GlobalData puts the profit sector at about CAD 128.7 billion — and the sector employs roughly 1.2 million people. Full-service restaurants account for around USD 49.5 billion across some 79,000 locations and quick service for about USD 37 billion across some 21,000. Post-pandemic eating-out habits, immigration-driven demand for global flavours and a strong premiumisation trend all favour suppliers with a distinctive product of origin. The route to the plate is unusually well defined. Distribution has consolidated to two national broadline distributors — Sysco Canada and Gordon Food Service — which carry a full range and deliver coast to coast, and which are therefore the realistic first partners for a foreign brand. Cash-and-carry channels including Costco Business Centre, Wholesale Club and GFS Stores serve independent operators who self-serve. This study covers market size and structure, the leading players, the access requirements for suppliers from the EU, from non-EU Europe and from outside Europe, the product groups with the strongest prospects, and a directory of Canadian importers and foodservice distributors.
